Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) Fees

The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a non-profit organization formed by the mattress industry to operate recycling programs in those states that have enacted mattress recycling laws. These states are California, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Oregon. This program is to help reduce landfill waste + illegal mattress dumping.

A recycling fee is charged to the customer at the time of purchase of any new mattress, box spring foundation, Bunky Board and/or an Adjustable Base. This fee is to help fund the cost of operating and administering the state’s program.

As of April 1st 2026 the fees per pieces are:

• California: $18.00
• Connecticut: $16.00
• Rhode Island: $20.50
• Oregon: $22.50

For example:

If you purchase 3 mattresses + 3 foundations, you will be charged for 6 pieces.

If you purchase a King foundation (comes in 2 pieces) and a Split King mattress (2 pieces), you will be charged for 4 pieces.

Note: Adjustable Bases apply due to it being covered in ticking.
